Newbie Looking for advice - Anyone in Surrey/Southwest London area?

Hi there, I know there are a million of these posts so I'll keep it as brief as I can.

I'm 23 and have wanted to get into airsoft for forever, but I don't hold a drivers licence yet and public transport takes around 2 hours to get to my nearest site (Ambush airsoft, Cobham) which would be a 25 min drive otherwise

I have a full set of MTP garb as well as boots, gloves, helmet and eye-pro, but no gun or harness (yet). Ideally I'd like to get a few visits with rented kit done so I can get my UKARA and avoid having to buy a two-tone.

I know the chances are very slim but if there is anyone in the vague area of north Surrey or southwest London (around Walton/Weybridge/Shepperton) or pass close to this area, I'd be more than willing to pay cash in exchange for hitchhiking to whichever airsoft grounds you frequent.

Either way, any general newbie advice or recommendations for an MTP harness would be much appreciated. Also I'm very keen on getting my hands on an SA80 Mk2 or Mk3 once I have my UKARA but most online are sold out.

I was looking at it would take 2-3 hours depending on the day, so on a Sunday when the day briefing starts at 8:30am even the earliest train wouldn't get me there on time. The Shepperton rail line is particularly poorly connected and slow even compared to neighbouring lines.

I guess worst case I can see if I can turn up slightly late haha

i usually visit croydon, it has much better transport links
 
Taking this Saturday as an example, the 06:11 train from Shepperton, via Clapham Junction will get you into Three Bridges station by 07:44. From there, its a 5 minute or so taxi journey to Driver Wood, so you will have plenty of time to get through the Chrono before the game brief starts at 0900.

I've not been to the site in Croydon, but it does tend to have a slightly/very iffy reputation. Truthfully, Driver Wood gets mixed reviews too, but I tend to find it OK.

Family has no car and I don't have £50 a week for lessons at the moment. Been saving for awhile because places give good discounts for buying lessons in bulk so I'll get round to it soon haha. And yeah trains are gross AF

Thanks for the info, Didn't even think about looking that far out but I fly from gatwick pretty frequently and yeah it's easy to get to. Thanks for letting me know :)

I actually had a question on this. I want to get an SA80 because hopefully I'll be using the real thing one day.
Do you get airsoft rifles that have the same method of operation as their real counterparts? Obviously the internal mechanisms are completely different so it's unnecessary, but is there a category of rifle where the fire selector, bolt release etc actually function?

As an example every time you reload most rifles you need to hit the bolt release to chamber the next round. Is there a category of airsoft rifle that will stop you from firing until sending the bolt? (even if it isnt actually doing anything mechanical inside)

The WE GBBR SA80 functions almost the same, minus the bolt release. There is a guy called English Kiwi who made parts to make it function but good luck getting a response from him 😔

Yes, most gas guns function (and often field strip) much the same as their real counterparts.

Some electric guns function like the real ones, but that's more limited to a charging handle or bolt release operation.

I don't think anyone makes an SA80 that's as unreliable and prone to jamming as the real one though.
 
Unfortunately if you're relying on public transport to get to games you need to get used to spending a lot of time travelling
