Posting costs from U.K. Airsoft Shops

Ebaybanned has gone ?, you could have broken that to me a bit easier, I loved that place 😢

While I agree, time is money, so costs have to come from somewhere, but if i walked in to a store & asked for info or the benefits of a part, even if its only £15-£20 worth, no ones gonna say "& here's an added surcharge for me talking to you for up to 15 minutes"
Retailers should consider how much business they probably lose due to excessive postage charges, after all the buyer has probably spent the same amount of time inputting their delivery info, if a seller cant quickly utilise & transfer the same info on to labels etc, maybe they need to consider updating their equipment.
Having worked retail If the person serving you hasn't up sold you for that much time spent they aren't doing their job. Regards posting you can only stream line the process so much. You have to get the item out of stock, package it, up print a label, most likely frank it( the company will be paying a fee to have a franking machine) you are still talk 5 to 10 mins of staff time. Once again the cost of postage is more than the the courier fee, chasing sales that loose you money is not a good business model.

I mean we're constantly hearing about The Death of the High Street and this is the crux of it. No, a small business cannot offer you what Amazon can on a price or convenience basis.

They're hamstrung by actually paying their taxes and ideally having their employees being able to take piss breaks.

i would assume its lazyness from the shops for the shippers terms and conditions , how lipo and gas and rifle shaped things are treated different, 10 quid is probly the top end so they just slap that 10 quid blanked over all items

Just to stress a point, last time I checked shipping pressurised gas containers (wether actually pressurised or not), loose Lithium batteries, Pyro. etc legally may require specific packaging and insurance, and a delivery service willing to carry such goods. This obviously costs rather more than a simple 48 hour tracked Royal Mail packet.

I can't speak for anyone else but the moment shop staff start trying to get me to buy extra stuff I don't need is the mmoment I go elsewhere.I really hate pushy salespeople.

With potentially dangerous goods I can understand the extra costs, it's when you're ordering something small like a set of o rings or valves and the postage is more than the cost of the product it can feel a bit of a piss take.

If they are good sales people you don't notice, I was never great at it Customer service was more my skill set. but I got to watch people that could sell you your own house keys.

I've worked in retail (admittedly long ago) so I find I can usually spot the signs easily. Also I'm the sort of person who goes shopping knowing exactly what I want before I walk through the door so that helps

Oh I sold hifi and TVs back in the day and the upsell is built in on those. At least in the early 10s we made more selling you a Gold Plated Double Shielded Filtered from Monster than we did the TV you were plugging it into.

We were targeted on maintaining a set profit margin and it basically meant always trying to sell a pair of earphones with every iPod, which was an easy sell at least because the ones in the box were known to be a bit crap. (Original ones with no bud that you'd hear screaming tinnily out of people's ears on the bus).

I sold Phones up until the mid 2000s, always got grief for not pushing our own brand insurance because it was a shit policy.

This is the shit side to modern retail working. I personally haven't worked in retail (apart from a year as a trolly boy in Sainsbury's) but my Mrs works in retail and she worked for one company and if you didn't sell x amount of the extras like insurance or store vouchers and so on they were penalised for it. Even though high % of customers don't want it.

Like you buy a new TV, "would you like to cover it for a year" hang on a minute I thought the manufacturers warranty covered this for 3 years and if it's accidental damage I'll just claim on my contents insurance.

I worked for asda when they were owned by walmart and the amount of bullshit they tried to implement was ridiculous. If it wasn't constantly expecting staff to be pushy with sales they'd expect them to take part in doing cringy af team building chants.

All this did was annoy both staff and customers

Now that sounds annoying. I hate all the Americanisms coming into our culture.

It really was. I refused to take part as it was quite frankly embarrassing, especially if they expected it done when customers were around. Threats of disciplinary action were made but never followed through, probably because I made it clear I didn't give a shit about the job and that I wasn't the only one they'd have to fire for not taking part.

Looking back I'm sure they didn't sack me as my entire attitude was that I would treat everyone how they treated me
