The cause can be the other way round. It may have been a faulty charger that could have knackered the battery if its voltage isn't steady for example.
Indeed, if one of the charging circuits goes then it'll result in an unbalanced pack.
Which will work, but whilst the 2 charged cells do the heavy lifting of making the gun seem to operate the 3rd cell is being dragged under to its doom.
Its why a way of checking the cells individually is very useful, as well as being a great "did i actually remember to charge this one" test.
