Nice one, man. Sounds like a good one. Any pics of the progress?
Like you, I think it would be good for just learning a new skill. Something to do that will be a fun little project as well as picking up some useful life experience that could be used elsewhere when the time comes. Unfortunately, I don't have a mill of any kind - I would have to do it by hand alone, but i'm optimistic that it could be done. It'd be something nice to whittle away the summer evenings with, anyway (excuse the pun
).
On my project, now I have a load of free time after Uni and an AK from which to take proper dimensions, i'm going to get on 3D modelling this thing.
However, I have another project that i'm curious about.
I'm looking to also make an authentic(ish) Russian Army ammo box/crate to store all my airsoft-related gubbins in. Having a poke around google, there is the standard crate-type container, which should be pretty easy to build with timber and the metal "spam can" container that may be a little more difficult. Here they are stacked on top of each other;
Now, my question to you guys is this; the closest thing I can think of off the top of my head that looks closest to the can design is a sardine tin (aside from the obvious spam tin, but spam tins seem to be too tall for the purpose) However, this is obviously way too small. Can anyone think of something similar to a sardine can, but sized-up, but would also not be too expensive?
If I do decide to go sardine tin, how many BBs do you think your average tin could hold?
