Total GBB Overhaul or keep a spare AEG?

Ladies and gents, question.

I returned to airsoft after a roughly 15 year gap and dove straight into GBBs as they'd become much more reliable, cheaper, popular etc.

I still have an NGRS MP5, one because I like it, but two because it acts as a "idiot proof" spare primary. I'm wondering if any GBB owners have done the same or people have totally shifted to exclusive GBB collections?

A lot of the discussions about this are from people who live in countries with a much more varied climate. I'm probably unlikely to play when the temperature gets anywhere near freezing.

For me on two of my. Guns are AEG rest are gbb, I keep the aegs for back up weapons on cold days but in only mainly winter weather. Most of the time it's iny car boot ready to swap to if gbb fails me.

I still own all my AEGs, but only because selling upgraded airsoft guns sucks. Spent a lot of time and money on my AEGs, but upgraded guns sell poorly (and rightfully so, since most people are awful techs and overstate what their guns can do), and so I still have them. I recently sold my mp5k to a friend for a pretty low price, because he's older and wants something small and light, that he will probably give to his grandson once he has to give up the hobby due to age-related things, but that's the only one.

However, every single one of them are in boxes and never get brought out. Not even my favourite one, which is my m14 socom. I only use gas rifles these days, but as long as you use the correct gas, there are GBBRs that will work even in the depths of winter. The pressure of gas is affected by temperature, so while I would never use black gas in a TM gun in the summer (because it will explode) at the 203psi that it is in 25 celcius, when it's down at 10 celcius the pressure is closer to 136psi, which is only just above the green gas I use which is 130psi in 25 celcius. While my WE SVD and m14 will struggle in < 5 celcius, my MWSs tend to work at that temperature if I use black gas in them, red gas in 10+ celcius, orange gas in 15+ celcius and green gas in 20+ celcius (roughly).

And my gas bolt actions seem to work even when it's really cold on just orange gas and will still hit the 2.3J power that I want, or red gas at an absolute stretch when it's approaching < 0 celcius.

And if I really can't be bothered, the SRS comes out, but I can't remember the last time I used my SRS. It tends to come with me because it's short and so it fits in the smaller front pouch of my rifle bag, so it's easy to pack.

still have my first and only AEG. Definitely a backup gun now and rarely gets used, but it’s not really worth much second hand and I like having it on hand as a reliable fallback.

I prefer my GBBR's for the added kick but in all honesty I play so rarely it's irrelevant, my next game in on the 25th in Bonnie Scotland so my GBBR's will be staying on the wall, got a couple of AEG's set aside for game day & a gas pistol as a secondary(never used a pistol in game yet).

I've just sold off nearly all of my AEG's in exchange for GBBRs, I kept a few AEGs just as a means to have a loaner. I'll typically take a GBBR and an AEG to a game day in case the GBBR doesn't want to play ball on the day though

I ended up switching out my springers and AEGs for GBBRs at the start of last year. Like Impulse said, if you get the right replicas, treat them decently, and use the right gas they will run well at around freezing. My beloved VFC G3 trucks through sub zero with MAPP gas and a couple of small tweaks.

They're honestly just much more fun to run and maintain IMO. I understand folks who want the relatively frictionless experience of running an AEG, and that's fair enough. I do enjoy moments where I have to clear a jam in the middle of a fight though. Or taking them apart for maintenance after a game day.

I only have one AEG now and that's a GBLS, so it offers me all the fun of GBB play but all year round.

I'd keep a few AEGs, you'll never know when you'll need one.

I've still got my AEGs , but honestly can't remember the last time I used one . Don't even take one on game day as a back up , just take 2 or 3 GBBRs and use whichever best suits the game .
