The recent heat wave and Marui plastic pistol slides

Slide cracked at the rear on my near new 18c earlier this year mid Feb I think so it's not just the hot weather and that's on abbey ultra. Yet my eleven plus years abused Hi Capa refuses to die.
The 18C is fairly notorious it has to be said; but the Capas are the exact opposite so it defo lines up (well I don't know about the XXXXXtreme auto one.. but the normal ones).

Full‑auto just beats the internals up way faster than semi. When the pistol’s cycling nonstop, any small wear or weak part shows itself pretty quick. Semi gives everything a tiny breather between shots, full‑auto doesn’t, so parts naturally fail sooner. Fun mode comes with a price.

Semi‑auto is always going to be gentler on the internals. Full‑auto is fun, but it’s a wear‑accelerator, and unless the pistol’s actually built for sustained auto fire, you’ll see parts fatigue much sooner.

When I got my TM 1911 back in whatever, I didn't know that 144A existed. I played in all temps with green gas and no problems at all. I genuinely believed that it was the least poky gas out there. Not sure that I've played in quite this heat before though. Certainly played in 30C+ though.

TM 1911are pretty sturdy. You really have to put a Capa or 1911 to fair amount of abuse and then the slide cracks around the rear sight. In my experience Glocks, PX4 and FNX slides break sooner or later despite the temperature.

The Boy has an 18C. It's about 10 years old and pretty badly maintained tbh. The slide rails are shocking, with damn great lumps out of them due to dirt (I think). I flattened everything off with wet and dry a while back. It's never missed a beat though. He does use his 1911 much more these days. It's certainly tougher than you'd expect given the wear. It's always run on green or red gas.

Bloody thing will probably shit itself next weekend now...

Even with 144a gas or equivalent, I wonder how some of the Marui pistols have been standing up.
The Marui slides are made of ABS and similar composites… the deflection point of standard ABS (the temperature at which it starts to get soft) is around 85C…. So you’d have to be playing on Airsoft in the hottest place on earth to realistically get your kit close to those temperatures. You’d start falling apart before the slide would.

The newer Marui slides are carbon fibre composite and have a higher deflection point (typically around 100C+)

As a few others have said, there are some Marui pistols that are notorious for failing. The G18C, FN57 and FNX. The slides all crack. I’d have though cold weather is probably worst for the plastics as they get more brittle in those colder temperatures and are more likely to suffer cracks and fractures from the shock of hitting the end stop.
