Have you ever watched the Magpul dynamics videos they helped me alot.

Is that where one person/team moves and another shoots and so on untill they are in a position suitable to make useful fire on an enemy position?

Tactics wise you always have to adapt to the situation at hand. Be it flank, fire and manoeuvre, rolling defence, firing lines (worked very well if you have enough people), ambush tactics or whatever. Communication is the most important thing. As long as you know what your squad mates are doing and they know what you are doing you will never have problems. things go bad even with the best tactics when no one knows what any of the others are doing and you all end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

and does anyone know the best way or some ways of deploying a sniper/spotter team:

how many people necessary?

first target (before you make the position by more firing)?

reload quickly to get more rounds into a panicked unit or slow and steady so less obvious as to position?

I have done a little sniping but really only as a squad level sniper. I have found unless it is a big all day event that sniper teams get left to far behind the action as airsoft moves to fast.

I am planning on doing a bit of sniping at IC09 this year if I can so I will get a better idea of sniping over a long scenario.

In a sniper team you obviously have a sniper and a spotter. And the main sniper obviously uses a sniper (no brainer) However there are a lot more options with the spotter in the team. You can arm him/her with a standard assualt rifle like an M4 to protect the sniper, you can give him a semi sniper semi assualt rifle like an M14 to protect the sniper and snipe (but he will have less range. Or... you can give the spotter a sniper to snipe with themain sniper.

The sniper team can also ware guillie suits for extra concealment, but this is quite pointles unless your playing in a mil-sim or bigger airsoft site as it adds a lot of weight and limmits your choice of tactical vests and chest rigs.

Oh also when sniping good idea to change position every so often so the enemy dosn't know where you are and observe your enemy before firing to get a good idea of what your up against. A lot of bolt action snipers are very quiet any way, but you could use black BB's to make it harder for oppenants to find you. h34r:

Snipers are useless in a walk-on day (well they can be used to scare the s*** out of the new players )

Snipers were first used to pick out a high ranking officer/NCO and take them out destroying the chain of command and scutteling the orgenization

They are now used to gather information. 90% of there job is noteing down enemy positions, their pattens, there attuide, gear, weapons, chain of command, any dutys etc

Only 10% of the time is shooting and its only if you have a clear shot then is move move move!!

In airsoft Snipers are only truly effective in a Mil-sim situation to gather information

Now spotters help the sniper by relaying information donw the radio back to command, they also carry around a set of binoculars so they have a wider field of view

Spotters can carry rifles but mostly carry SMG's. becuase they need to be as mobile and steathy as possible and lugging around a full sized M4 could prevent that.

My spotter carries an M4 and B-nocs. I have found at my local site that sniping (as effectivly as I could with an AEG) works really well as there is usually a single larger game running all afternoon that is either attack OR defend. defending as a sniper in this role works well, the attackers may be more challenged as snipers, but It could work as info gathering as to the defenders snipers (usually on one side of the stream on the hill anyway)

I also play in smaller games at a freinds, good cover with wide fields of view. the sizes of the skirmsih areas arre perfect for sniping, almost everywhere is hitable from the centre, meaning if hiding at the edge you can easily cover half or more.

My spotter is there mostly for protection and spotting blokes I can't see down a scope once you get tunnel vision.

Information can also be gathred by recon specialists for the rest of the team as well, they use smgs so they can move quickly and silently. A recon specialist will usualy scout ahead of the rest of the team and find enemy locations, then they give this information back to the team. They can also be used as 'the guy in front'. What I mean by this is staying slightly in front of the rest of a team in a patrol and looking out for enemies, ambushes... However its best that every one takes it in turns doing this as 'the guy in front' will eventualy get tired and be less alert. I read this in a book called Chris Ryn's Fight to Win however you'd probably never use 90% of the tacticts in that book as their for special forces.

I've seen spotters use M4 CQB's their a bit shorter and a lot of Airsoft M4's are quite light. However the more realistic, heavier M4's would probably get in the way like you said.

I use a M4 CQB when i am team leader it means i can hold my rifle in one hand a fling my other one round commanding players with ease

As has been said a snipers main role is reece and intel. Then taking priority targets. I have seen alot of walk-on snipers get lit up all to often to consider it a viable tactic on your average skirmish days where games tend to last around and hour and are normally quit fast paced. Although I have seen regulars at my site us snipers a bait for the other team, letting the sniper head of ahead of the main group but keeping them in range so that when they are attacked they can ambush the opposition.

Squad sniper or DM is a better option as you will move round with a squad for protection and be mobile enough to stay in the fight.
