Stupid noob mistake

Hey I think the trigger on my CA MP5K PDW has to be squeezed/pulled back quite a bit more than usual guns, and I know you're supposed to pull the trigger back completely. I keep forgetting so I don't press it enough and it jams. (never happened with other guns I've used apart from CA AUG)

Now, I thought this would be okay because people at my local airsoft shop had told me it happens (I did it with a CA Steyr AUG A2 too, at the shop) and you just switch to fully-auto then switch back to semi and it's okay.

But then I didn't even do it right on f*cking full...I know I'm so retarded.

So then it was just making a clunking noise, on full and semi. Sounded like something was wrong with the gearbox. Anyway, I took the battery out then put it back in (randomnly charged it for about 1 minute) and it was fine again.

It just seems bad that just not pulling the trigger enough can make the gun break (temporarily) Seems like a thing worth £150 shouldn't do that...and I don't want it to break every thirty seconds (It's my fault though)

I sound f*cking retarded not being able to even pull a f*cking trigger..

Any help of some sort? IDK...I just keep thinking that it shouldn't be doing that (breaking so easily) although it is my fault

i dont get how you dont pull a trigger fully?

take a look at the gears, might just be they are wearing down a little if they are plastic (being a 150 quid gun they may well be)

Sounds to me like the battery just isn't charged enough so there isn't enough power for the motor to turn the gears and pull the piston back against the spring.

Charge the battery for a few hours and test it then.

I'm with Ed on this, it sounds like an electrical issue.

Charge the battery, if that fixes nothing, try a new battery.

Being a CA, I'd wager that you have fairly decent metal gears so I wouldn't think they'd wear down quite as bad as suggested, but it is perfectly reasonable to suspect that it could be the gearbox in some way, though it's much much preferable for it to be a battery issue IMO!

Let me get this straight, Jae: employees of an airsoft shop told you it is a normal thing for an AEG's gearbox to jam up simply because you didn't pull the trigger back in some predetermined fashion, whilst offering said AEG for sale @£150, and keeping a straight face?

Thanks everyone I feel stupid that it is probably just the battery. The manual didn't say how long to charge the battery for so I thought an hour would be okay, after all I was only going to test it for a minute. Then I charged it for another hour or so but left it until the morning so it would've lost some charge. But still, if it is charged for an hour and I only shot about 50 rounds. Anyway me dad is taking it in after work it's funny cos he joked how they might just tell him it needs charging.

I mean just pull it all the way. It does seem quite far compared to others, you have to pull the trigger all the way back to the trigger guard/pistol grip. It"s because I'm used to other guns like the G36 I used once (hire gun at F&Os Hey Wood, probably an ASG/JG) that had no problems with the trigger or fire selector.

A lot of guns can jam up on semi-auto if you pull the trigger lots of times very fast.

It happens because you pull the trigger again, before the gearbox has completed the action from the first pull. So the piston ends up being stopped half way through its cycle.

At the half way point the tension from the spring is immense, starting the pull again from that point is probably akin to having a spring of an 500fps rating or higher inside the gearbox. Not something a lot of motors can manage.

If you're getting jams like this often, then either your battery isn't charged properly, or the battery you have has an insufficient voltage for airsofting.

You want a 7.2v as a bare minimum, though I'd recommend 8.4 volts or higher. Just don't go over 9.6 without considering a few gearbox upgrades.

The higher the voltage, the faster the gearbox will cycle your shots upon pulling the trigger, meaning there's less chance of a jam when firing on semi.

I'd bet money on your problem being down to a low charge on the battery though.

Right so yeah I was trying to pull it quite fast and it had only been charged for ~1 hr.

Feel so stupid because it is like the stupidest mistake to make and you must think I'm a huge huge newbie.

Oh well at least the community in airsofting is so friendly and everything. I just feel sorry for my dad cos he's at the shop as we speak (well not speak...but whatever) and they're just going to say 'You've got the charge the battery you silly bugger' (that's what he said they'd say) lol

Anyway, thanks again for your help. Like I said though it's a bit annoying CA don't even tell you how long to the charge the battery for. It's an 8.4v Stick Type, don't know much about batteries either, but my dad's got the battery and charger with him as well so can't give any more information.

I had a problem like this, turned out it was the wiring to the motor was loose.
