Putting clips online - Youtube and Facebook

Ok,

So I've got my Contour now, took it out at the weekend and got 5 videos, varying in length from 15 to 45 minutes.

I've tried uploading the raw video file of a 25 minute video to Facebook and after SEVEN HOURS of "Uploading" the percentage reached 100% and then it just stopped doing anything... So I cancelled it. It took the bloody piss. Does it seriously take that long to upload stuff?

Right now I'm finalising an iMovie project so I can upload it to YouTube, but even the finalisation process is taking an hour! Is there some way to compress the files down or something so it doesn't take as long?

Also, whilst we're on the subject, is there a maximum video size, or length, for uploading to YouTube? 'Cos my longest video is about 45 minutes and over 3Gb... I'm dreading the wait required to get that one online...

Youtube takes forever mate.....seems to be quicker for me if I plug directly to the router but is all based upon your upload speed etc...

I use windows movie maker then process for HD and then youtube it....takes a while due to Youtube crap.

not sure of anything faster to be honest.

Not sure about limits, but it won't like a 3GB upload. What format are you using and what quality/video size?

They are, I remember now. First ones, until you get so many views or something are limited to 15 minutes (used to be 10 minutes).

Wow, well that's bloody lucky then, 'cos with editing I managed to cut the video I'm uploading now down to 14:53 or something haha.

Gonna have a hard time cutting the others down to less than 15 minutes though...

I'm filming in 720p and I don't know the answers to your other questions lol.

What if I become a YouTube partner? Could the videos be longer then? 'Cos I'm thinking of adding a new airsoft video every week, maybe one each for both my channel and the society channel.

Just learned you can verify your YouTube account to be able to upload videos longer than 15 minutes, so I've done it =D

So now I'll be able to add the 30 or so minute defence game from the trench fields on Saturday. Woot.

I'll see you in 5 million years when I'm done editing and the 6-9Gb HD file has been uploaded...

I really love it.

I'm kinda bummed out by the fact it doesn't seem to be able to film at 60fps, but the quality is nice, the view distance is surprisingly good and I'm loving watching the footage back.

My only complaint is that because I had to use one of the adhesive mounts to stick it to my helmet, it's quite a lot higher and to the right of my face, which means the video often can't see what I'm looking at when going around a left hand corner and things like that. My helmet straps also aren't good enough to hold it properly still, so two of the 5 videos I took are quite crap because it looks like I was staring at the sky the whole time because my helmet slipped back.

But when you get it right, the videos are awesome. I just hope people enjoy watching them as much as I do, 'cos obviously I took it, so there's going to be some bias in there.

No mate, definately a good watch and well worth the footage...so much so im probably going to give mansfield a go at some point. I have got used to switching mine off and back on frequesntly to create more smaller clips for easier editing etc.. then if it does move from a prominent view then its not too much hassle.

I keep well away from contours software.....darn thing...i just take files in the virgin format and put them in a file and begin editing in movie maker

Where did you get the camera from and how much was it? Hope you dont mind me asking!!

I got mine about a week ago from Amazon for £137 and a Samsung, Series 10, 32Gb Micro SD card for 20 something quid.

If you need help on editing vids for youtube then let me know. I've been doing it (for gaming at least) for over 2 years I subbed to your channel too by the way.

Never used WMM before but I started off using iMovie. It's okay I guess but the compression algorithms are SO SLOW! a 10 minute H.264 video (that was the time limit back when I started) would take half an hour or more to render. I upgraded to Adobe Premiere Pro and it almost does it in real time Plus the H.264 compression is awesome and cuts down the size drastically at good quality, since it is Blu Ray format after all.

Cheers for the offer and the sub I think for the level of editing I'm planning on I'll manage though. I don't really plan on doing anything more fancy than I've done in the current video.

If videos get long enough and I don't want to cut them down to detract from the overall feel, then I might add highlights to the description and mark them with time links, so people can skip to certain parts by choosing from a list in the description.
