I once asked Mike Cripps at the sadly missed Elite Shooting Centre if I should lightly coat parts in the hammer unit of my hi capa with the synthetic oil I bought from him.

His answer was an emphatic NO. He told me only to use the oil on the slide rails and leave other areas alone, apart from using silicone oil for o rings.

And yet I see people spraying a little oil into hammer blocks on a regular basis. And it is usually silicone oil which is not a good lubricant for metal to metal parts.

Do you clean your hammer units, or just clean them and leave them dry?

No silicone oil on metal to metal

i use the lightest amount of sewing machine oil on the rails but stress very light so as not to go anywhere else

if you lube the hammer/disconnector/firing pin lock too much it gunks up.

Mineral oil degrades o rings
