Ian, Stalingrad is a great film. Endings a bit strange.

What about Downfall, too.

Bat*21 is pretty good plus ones for Full Metal Jacket and Platoon too. And Defiance (cracking film).

Oh and The Deer Hunter too.

Can't say I ever thought of Dog Soldiers as particularly "stirring" though...

The great raid definitely made me a bit sad. (The end is sad)

Is beneath hill 60 anything like the opening scene of Paschendaele? (The bayonet to the head bit)

Cross of Iron (must buy this on DVD sometime - it was on me old TiVo but hasn't been on since to record) the expression on the kid's face at the end / so many feelings rolled together / you have to laugh or u'll cry
