Each to their own. Personally never heard of a single person being blinded by a BB fragment. I've had it happened approximately 20 odd times in 26 years, 24 games a year. Lots of cqb. Nor in that time a single person out of 1000s I've made and sent across the world say they have lost any amount of vision due to a BB fragment. If it was a thing I would be blind 20 times over. Yeah sometimes a little uncomfortable but I'd rather that than not see due to fog. One thing I always say I've had my kid at 3yo dive on me and ram a finger in my eye. I received a scratched eyeball. I still see ok for an old man. Not sure what the joules of a 3yo are compared to a tiny low velocity piece of plastic but I dare say a lot more. Like I say yes you can get bits in your eye, and it's my personal choice. But the idea that such a thing will blind you I have literally never heard of or seen in all my years. Only people claiming it can happen without any information.

your voice certainly carries a bit of weight on this matter, it's preferable to hear that shattering bb's and losing eyesight is more urban legend than established fact, but i'm sure you can't blame us for having an abundance of caution when advising strangers on the internet.
after all the whole point is to ensure that whatever action they take, be it wearing the cheapest chinesium loose mesh or full seal goggles with an impact rating that laughs at anything short of actual shrapnel, that they do so knowing what the potential risks are and what they're comfortable taking on.

Why take the risk though?
Getting salt in my eyes is unlikely to blind me but I still avoid situations where salt can enter my eyes.
(Worth noting I have very poor eyesight as it is. Worn glasses since I was 6 and they have degraded alot over the years. So I am very very protective of the sight I do have left. This fuels my overprotective nature around eye pro. I wear ballistic rated military goggles with exfog for this reason)

I think alot of the stigma of mesh eye pro probably comes from the cheap masks like this which had a rep for failing apart

For sure unfortunatly inferior eyepro is sold way to much advertised for airsoft. Temu, aliexpress, ebay, even amazon have these cheap mesh goggles.
A friend of mine had an interesting idea on how to potentially combat the shattering issue. He was going to try adding a thin padded layer over the mesh and using a laser to cut the holes out. No effect in vision or strength but dampens impact to reduce the impact veleocity and chances of shattering.
26 years without an issue or anyone else and I prefer it that is why. Like I say each to their own.

Not just places like temu and Ali express unfortunately, look at the watermark on the picture. Also a quick Google search shows quite a few "proper" airsoft shops selling them
I'm not sure how well that foam idea would work as it would need to be relatively thick to have any real effect on the BB without it blocking more light out
This. Personally I don't get on with mesh as I find it distracting but if someone else prefers them then I don't see why they shouldn't. My only concern is that some newbie will buy some cheap crap and loose an eye, but then again I have the same concerns about that happening with clear plastic eye pro too

Totally I know many struggle with it with sight issues. The other main thing I'd say is many will slate and many of the actual serious in game incidents I've seen and read are shooting glasses and the BB getting in. Yet almost no one mentions it and will happily recommend them. And even then I've never come across someone in those cases getting totally blinded either and that a whole BB. We play a sport/hobby where we shoot eachother. It is inherently dangerous.
