VFC GBBR AKM, AK-105 and other IWA releases

The ironic thing with the SA80 is there are yanks desperate for one.....

Meanwhile IIRC the countries offered them for export (including for free as "military aid") unanimously opted for literally anything else.

You've recalled incorrectly I'm afraid, multiple countries have taken them. Not countries with any money, but multiple countries.
Info comes up immediately at the top of google if anyone wants to fact check.

They're reliable and accurate, but it makes no sense to buy or take any SA80 variant when the MoD will be the one and only source for spare parts and training. Whereas if you're a government and you buy/take AKs or ARs you'll find both in plenty of both from dozens of countries around the world. And if you're a country poor enough to be taking free guns you'll also want ones that can run without user or armourer maintenance for as long as possible regardless, which is why AKs are the most common archetype out there.

"They're reliable". the pile of warped upper receivers in the armourer's ISO in Lashkar Ghar would suggest otherwise. It's accurate as it has a very long inner barrel but at the cost of needing to take your finger off the trigger to take it out of safe which is the time you probably don't want to be taking your finger off the trigger, You have to fiddle around in your armpit to switch from semi to full and again fiddle in your armpit to change magazines. No firearm should have you fiddling around in your armpit. The trigger is rubbish, having to reach over the top of you weapon to cock it, especially with optics on it, is rubbish, having to tap the forward assist during normal weapon handling drills is rubbish and don't get me started on the LSW.
At best it's an OK weapon but bought as it was cheap which with hindsight and 2 costly rebuilds later probably wasn't the best choice. Hopefully they won't make the same mistake with project Greyburn.
I really fell out of love with it when I had it slung on my back like a rucksack and whilst trying to take the camo net off the top of the FFR land Rover for the 17th time in 4 days without sleep, I got tangled up because of the cocking handle, had a hissy fit, got even more tangled and had to be cut out the camo net. 1/10 would not recommend.

Another day, another AFUK thread getting derailed by talks of real firearms 😂
