I buy what I think I like.

i don’t care what you like.

i tinker because I can’t help it.

when it performs to the limits of my tinkering capabilities it’s generally the time when I realise whether I really like it or not and it stays or gets sold.

I am happy with my 4 remaining rifs

i don’t think I want a gbls das but if I do go that way the mws and my sorted socom ngrs would have to be culled to fund  the purchase, I don’t think I can let either of them go.

ive been through many brands and models to get to this point and these 4 do everything I need for the two sites I go to

To say you’ve over simplified the topic would be doing it an injustice , how could you possibly think you could condense the huge festering lump that is the airsoft community in to just two categories ? ?   ???

plus you have to admit the titles a bit misleading as well this isn’t really about ‘Form over Function’ is it ?, peel back the very thin surface layer and really it’s just another bash the geardo’s thread ?

Generally you should be able to expect an expensive gun to out perform a cheap gun (and why not ?) , that’s why your spending more on it .
Yes I agree a LOT of players are happy with a cheap gun and cheap kit and have a great day out with it , me my self I have some really cheap gun and some very expensive ones but for me my criteria is I must like the look of the gun to own it , if I don’t like it I just won’t use it so it’s a wast of money no matter how cheap or expensive or how good the gun is(classic example for me is the Evo everyone raves about it but me ? I detest the look of them so I’d never have one immaterial how good it is)BUT I’d put money on it that if the players with the cheap set up could pick up a high end gun and a full set up of pukka kit for not a lot of beer tokens they’d be on it like a tramp on a dropped kebab !
If people where like sticks of rock and you snaped them in half then just like a stick of rock there’d be a message in the middle , only difference is it’ll say “greed and envy”  ?

Not sure I fit into either category. If I had to pigeon hole myself with a catch phrase it would probably be “skills over kills”. I get way more satisfaction from a perfectly executed mag change or a slick weapon transition than racking up a massive body count, which probably explains why I only really use GBBRs all year round.

I currently own 4 MWS builds for different purposes and a couple of gas MP5s and a gas MP7. I will probably add an the new Marui AKM just so I can practice my weapon handling drills on one.

While that sounds like a lot it’s much cheeper than the revolving door of AEGs a lot of people seem to have.

I'm definitely a Cat 2. I literally sold off my entire gun rack and bought another collection to replace it, each gun only being skirmished once

However I'm trying to make a few guns that I will rely on above the others.

I'm a mix when it comes to my wearable kit.  I try to keep to the "norm" but I modify alot of it as we're not in real combat so some protective parts are binned to save weight /increase my movement.  Most milsim (yet to actually do one) request for a certain uniform and type of dress which is annoying but il get over it (it's a military simulation after all).   So depends on the site I play at but I'm a sheep when it comes to the clothing.   Multicam y fronts... The lot. 

I only buy something new when I feel my current item is on the fringes of its lifespan or before it doesn't work as it has done for x amount of years.   I try not to sell my old kit if I can  but if there is demand then... 

I don't collect airsoft guns I use them for their intended purpose. 

Summary: if its not working then try something new and keep the old stuff to go back to/reflect on when doing comparisons and don't be shy to be both a sheep or a pioneer.

A great deal of what I buy is broken when I get it with the exception of some old and rare stuff like my real sword and tanaka stuff.

Even so pretty much all of that was bought with money from selling other broken guns I bought. I have a solid core collection that I repair and keep when it breaks but Ive never had a gun stripped apart and have every part replaced like some do. I have great fun running everything from stock cyma aks to tanaka revolvers. 

I repair stuff, manufacture pats and build custom guns but I have a set of things that I play more often with and always keep, the a&k pkm being one of those.  The only upgrades Ive ever really done are new hop units/ rubbers and adding a gate warfet. Everything else is stock or replaced with similar parts when it breaks.
