You'd want to upgrade that RAM to DDR3.

TBH you can get better quality for your money. I helped build someone a pc for £700 that had all new up to date parts that ran ARMA2 fine.

Was only running a 560 if i can remember. prices have probably dropped since then so you could probably get something a bit higher.

DayZ is a good reason to get into PC gaming, the game is awesome. Should expect the standalone to come out the start of next year with all hope.

DayZ is a good reason... If you use a private hive. I havent been on it in months because the devs refuse to deal with hackers. And admins are banned from banning hackers. So yeah. SCREW DAYZ MOD! ahah. Private hive and mod it or wait for the standalone. Public DayZ is just... awful. Or play the actual ARMA II MP. It's real fun!

As a console player, it's pretty intriguing. Though the build stage seems confusing and scary as hell.

The results are impressive though. Especially considering I was going to budget myself around £800 to build a PC.

Thats why I'm happy I made the switch from console to PC =] Its more expensive but the console is effectively displaying the game on low settings in sub HD ratios that have been upscaled, plus some games are limited to 30fps. I see this build as more of an upgradable console, rather than a gaming PC. Which I think is the whole point of Steambox?

Yeah, basically what he's done is see that Valve are apparently producing a living room style, gaming PC. A sort of bridge over the gap between consoles and PCs.

So this project he's done was to find out if it was possible to build a reasonable gaming PC, within the price bracket consoles are generally sold for on release.

I think he's shown it can be done quite effectively at low cost, but I'm still put off by the build section of it. I wouldn't have a clue what to plug in where, even with the video. What if my parts and case etc are different? I'd need someone else to assemble it for me.

Yes it is.

Called SLI for Nvidia cards, and CrossFire for ATI/AMD cards.

Will need a SLI/Crossfire suitable motherboard, and 2 identical cards.

Will also need to think about how powerful the PSU is and how much room you have in your case.

For your first build I wouldn't really recommend it as it gives you more to think about. It often means you have to get 2 lesser cards. It'd be better to get 1 more expensive card. Then at a later date if you feel you really want SLI you can have 2 better cards.

That said when most people get to that stage they just upgrade to the latest best single card. Some games don't work that great with 2 cards (some, not all). You have been warned

On the base of it, 1 card is usually better than 2 regardless of the situation. With 2, I am having to update the drivers every few weeks just to keep current games running at optimum performance (as the game dev's release patches). The question you've got to ask yourself when even considering 2 is "Will I ever fully use both cards simultaneously?" More often than not the answer will be no. A single GTX680 will run BF3 @ 120fps+ on Maximum Settings at 1920x1080. To put that into perspective, your average PC monitor can only reproduce 60-75fps so the rest is a waste, which thoroughly points to what the high end cards are really for, which is the ultra high resolution monitors. So having 2 is frivolous unless you have something that equals or exceeds 2560x1440.
