Replacing Magazine O-Rings - WE M4 (Gen 2) & WE GEN 4 G17 GBB

Evening all,

After 5 years out I am looking to get back in this spring and therefore need to bring my maintenance back up to scratch.

I have 4 x M4 Magazines and 1 x G17 Magazine and, due to the fact they've been sat empty for the past five years, I suspect the O-Rings will all need replacing.

I read an interesting topic on O-Rings just today and was wondering if anyone in the community knew the specification of the O-Rings (all Valves) that I am looking for? My Google Search has thus far been fruitless!

I am aware of the Airsoft Retailers selling sets but also know that O-Rings are a generic item not limited to Airsoft; so if I can get the specs, I'll purchase elsewhere.

Also, I've read a specialist tool is required to remove the valves (to replace the O-Rings) on both of these magazines; is there a workaround or are we limited to using Airsoft specialist GBB Magazine Valve tools?

Search for lees precision on google, you’ll find all you need there at good prices, including the tool.

O-rings are not specialist parts.

Once you get one out, measure it, and you can then order them from a bearing supplier. You'll pay a lot less especially if you buy the bigger packs.

Rings are sold by 2 dimensions, Thickness of the ring (cross section), Inner Diameter (ID). You can measure them with a steel rule that does 1/2mm's.

Ring material is more important, Propane dissolves Rubber and EPDM. So buy Nitrile or Buna-N rings. Always check the price of 50 and 100 rings as very often it's not a lot more than 2 or 10 rings. I'd be surprised if 100 rings in the correct dimension were more than £6. The mark up for people that haven't worked out they can measure the rings is incredible.

Iceni, I do believe it was your original post on O Rings that I was referring to. 

I believe my Nozzle O-Ring needs replacing also, so I'll measure that one up and order through the above and see how I get on.

Rings are easy, Measure twice order once.

You can get a tool to measure them but it's not worth the effort for small rings. Bigger ones the tool is useful and by bigger I mean 50mm+ especially for thin rings because it's quite hard to get an easy measurement when the ring is big and floppy.

Update on this.

Tested each of my magazines today;

1 x G17 Mag vented a little at first but then settled. Put 10 rounds through it and appears healthy. Will change the O Rings as a matter of principle but promising signs. 

As for the M4, I have three Gen2 Mags and 1 Gen1 for spares. 

Two of the Gen2's were flawless. The third, however, leaks gas from the top (where the gas leaves the magazine and enters the weapon - the rectangular whole behind where the BB's are visible in the top of the magazine). I put my finger over it and it stops leaking; is there a valve in there that is likely to be bust? Anyone any thoughts? 

On the whole though, promising signs. Replace all O Rings and we may be back on business.
