M16 Body Upgrade

Hey all bit of a n00bish question as I've never swapped an actual body on a gun. If I am upgrading the body of a TM M16 VN does it matter which body I get? Can I swap it with any other make or are there specific ones that will fit.

Just out of intrest why are you doing this and what would you want to swap it for

The Vietnam body has the handle/rear iron sight permanently attatched, swapping to a new one gives the choice of sights on its rail.

as for the original question, I have no idea.
