light infantry commander

Here is my light infantry/ skirmishers commander loadout

Primary: VSR-11 (currently undergoing repairs!)

Secondarys: makarov gbb, dual wield black viper elites

Equipment: homemade BB grenades (x5), wooden sword (you'd be surprised how much its came in handy), Radio (for communication with sniper)

What do you guys think?

rubber sword maybe not wooden! I'd like to see the home made BB grenades. But over all its a very light kit, personally I love to run a light kit.

I only have PLCE webbing with a holster and triple utility pouch so I can carry 4hi cap mags in each pouch!

The homemade grenades are effectively party poppers, with the confetti removed, and replaced with bbs,

commanders are usually back at base so this load-out will be difficult

However I would say

scrap all of it as what commander would be using a sniper rifle and be dual wielding pistols? there supposed to set an example for the rest of troop! and they would have the service rifle.

However i see you already have the VSR, so I would say just make a sniper loadout (just grab yourself a ghillie and play it cool at the back) so grenades wont be needed (saves you some cash)

If you are still insistent on the commander load-out then I would say get yourself the service rifle and pistol of whatever country your trying to recreate, with regular kit but not as scuffed about

besides matt, if are group is light infantry/ skrimishers/ rifles, our standard service rifle is a sniper

seecondly, the team is so small, that it would be impractical for the commander to just be "back at base"

I have to agree with make on this one, commanders normally carry a standard issue service rifle. So British commanders would carry the SA80 L85A2.

You normally have a command 2 support gunners 1 sniper and the rest riflemen as a standard unit about 10-15men I believe might be wrong.

P.S. The L86 LSW is mainly used as a DMR these days. As it does not have the ability on using a Box/Drum mag.

Think you missed the point, from what I can see the op isn't trying to follow a particular real world countries loadout, he's creating a 'mythical' country as such and thus basing his loadout from that.

A section is made up of 2 riflemen 2 Heavy gunners 2 grenidiers a Section Leader and a 2IC

thats 8

They will only bring in snipers etc into bigger groups like platoons and above and they will only be marksmen not ful fleged snipers... as they work in groups of two on their own

Something along those lines as the SVD is used more by designated marksmans because it's not as accurate as other snipers but has a higher fire rate. I got to see one firing when I went shooting last year, really nice gun.

The make up of Russians squads is varied depending on the branch of service: Motorized, Mechanized, VDV, VDV Mechanized, OMON, Interior troops, Border Guards or Marines. Also whether they are front-line, second line or third line/militia.

Nearly all frontline troops are issued the AK-74. VDV (paratroopers) are generally issued the folding stock variants. AKSU are rare for frontline units but can be found amongst OMON, vehicle crew, special forces and police units. (There is no such unit as Spetznatz, it is more a coverall term for special forces. If you want to do a more realistic Russian Special Forces loadout, look up Alfa Gruppe, Vympel, OMON or VDV Recon. These guys are badass. For instance following a kidnapping of Russian dignataries in Lebanon in the 80's, Alfa Gruppe rounded up the kidnappers friends and family members and severed there limbs until the kidnappers realeased the hostages. Which they did.)

Anyway, back on topic. The SVD is used as Marksman rifle and Sniper. It was originally designed for Russian Squads to stretch their fire-power beyond 600m. In motorized/mechanized platoons, one squad will be issued a single SVD. VDV will generally have one per squad. I dont have any info for the marines, but other specialist units will have designated sniper teams that will use them. The russians have access to a large number of varied sniper rifles. In the Beslan School Crisis there are pictures of Alfa Gruppe snipers using the L96!

Frontline units, VDV and specialist units will be the best equipped. Militia and thrid line troops will still be issued with far older gear. Ak47s, AKMs and RPKs are very common amongst these units.
