Inherited an SMG but no instructions/brand new to this

Hi There,

No idea if this is the right place, but could just so with some advice, I am a complete newbie/zero experience. I have the the forum rules but if I had said something incorrect or not allowed let me know, again I'm a newbie sorry!

I'm based in North Shropshire
I've never done airsoft in my life (paintballing is about extreme as it gets)
This was a gift to my Son from one of my best friends who moved to Sweden and this was his old piece of equipment and basically said "here you go mate your lad might get into this if he likes paintballing" haven't used it in years though
I have no idea how this thing works or the value (I've managed to get it to shoot air but I think the battery pack is dead/needs replacing as it does it once then dies)

Basically I just need to know:
Does a replacement battery pack exist, I have tried looking online but not much luck?
Is there somewhere near me I can take it just to give it a once over and show me how to use it (no instructions)?
Do I need a licence or like certificate for this type of weapon?
Any other advice you guys have or things I need to consider!
Oh and does this model have any value? Saw new ones (I think) online for like £200-400 lol but don't know if it's legit!

Sorry if this kind of post isn't allowed, I just have it sat here gathering dust and could do with some help as my Son is interested in Airsoft and want to basically surprise him one day with it fixed and ready to go to a local event or meet up etc.

A quick search online for retailers will help you to surmise if
1. They are still sold (or in production)
2. Attain a retail price
The general rule of thumb when selling a replica used is to list at 70% of lowest retail.

The battery is old Nimh technology, a current Lipo of a same voltage will have it going again (the cells on that one are probably past holding a charge) though i’d not field it until it’s had a strip down, checked over and a lube and fresh hop rubber.
The battery should show what voltage it is … ie:7.2v / 8.4v etc
It looks to have a Tamiya battery connection, so find something with that to suit

If it was gifted to you then its perfectly legal to own and use in your garden without any kind of registry or license.
BUT the BBs must not leave your property boundary and you should let your neighbours know. Keep it out of sight from people outside because if anyone reports seeing a firearm its going to be a pain before it gets sorted out.

Its quite a decent make and should perform well if its in working condition. As mentioned above, it may benefit from some new parts depending how long and where its been stored. (Any signs of rust or corrosion anywhere?)

Unfortunately you won't find any newer battery (Lithium Polymer - LiPo) with that connector. Can you do basic soldering? (DEANS or T-Connectors are common)

HERE is a decent cheap battery to get you started if you can solder a new connector on the gun.
and HERE is a charger to go with it. Easy plug-in automatic charging but NEVER leave it charging unattended.

If you do get a battery for it you can try a couple of test shots to see how it sounds. If it sounds rough or grindy then stop immediately. If its smooth then still not good to 'dry' fire without BBs.
There should be a cleaning rod in the box. Look on youtube how to clean the barrel
Then get some 0.2g BBs (which should be white NOT yellow) and plink way.

Teach your son good 'trigger discipline' and ALWAYS wear eye protection. The BBs can really bounce around. (You can use the cheap work ones from tool shops)
