Import duties and tax for parts

How do you go about paying duty? I always thought the post office held the item till you paid, but I have just had a package delivered with a £30 duty and not paid anything.

 
If it's through a courier, they pay and then you pay back when they deliver. (or at least that's the theory of how it works).

Have already priced through them the G5, carbine kit and 4 spare mags ;) - however those will have duty and VAT charged on them where as if all my HK purchases come to under £390 then no Duty/VAT ;)

Still if I don't get then I'm likely to order from Samoon

 
Yeah, if there's money to be paid the PO usually deliver a note saying so with options of website or phone number to pay it via and then they deliver once you've paid.
