Hand gaurd replacement

So I am looking to replace my plastic hand gaurd with a metal one but I’m not sure if it’s as easy as a like for like swap

will I need any parts other than the guard?

Some more info would help, which rif for example. Some can be tricky others really easy so it depends. Generally though, it's not too hard and it can be done with some basic tools.

It’s a nuprol defender. It’s got a six inch poly hand gaurd that splits into a top and bottom halves. The top half has forks which locator in a grove where the barrel nut (I think that’s what it’s called) site. The forks tho are crap and the tangs snapped hence the need now to replace.
