General pistol maintenance tips?

Hey all, after a WE Gen 4 Glock in November, and my dad's looking at buying a new one soon as well. I want to make sure we're keeping them in good condition.

I appreciate this has probably been a commonly asked subject, although I couldn't find a similar thread.

I was wondering if any of you guys could give some good advice or a guide on basic maintenance, as a lot of us are very experienced and I know it's good advice. From the videos I've watched before on YouTube it seems there are conflicting opinions on what should be done / what should be used, so the videos aren't too helpful.

Just a little bit of oil on the slide and firing mechanism will be fine.

As for the magazines, leave a bit of gas in them so the orings don't dry out.
