I already have an 8.4v 1600mAh mini type battery for my RIF (see title)but I want to buy a spare. Is it advisable to buy another the same?

I have read some internet mumblings that the trigger response with an 8.4v is inadequate, and not having anything to compare it to nor having been skirimishing proper yet I was wondering if some thing like

http://www.component-shop.co.uk/html/9_6v_airsoft.html

(8th one down)

Would that be ok, RE: Function, trigger response, fitting in the handguard, not damaging internals etc.

Thanks in advance for any advice and help.

The 9.6V will increase your rate of fire but probably not do too much for the trigger response, which is down to the motor, switch contacts, wiring loom etc. You will probably get a better response by fitting a mosfet and using a 7.4V Lipo battery. My CM16 Raider uses a 7.4V 1200mAh 15C Lipo in the stock tube and runs quite fast enough for me on that setup, especially as I use midcaps, so don't want to empty the mag too fast.

If its your first gun and you have not been skirmishing yet, don't worry about it at all. The performance increase you will get will be negligable as the time it takes the bb to get to the target is a fraction of a seconds difference and really will not make much of a difference overall Get another 8.4 or a 9.6 min of the same size. When you have been for a while, have an idea of how RIF's work then feel free to start opening gearbox's, messing around with wiring and the like.

Thanks guys. Wasn't planning on adding LiPo, Mosfet etc. just yet, although having some electrical skills, those are the bits I'm most confident with.

I was more wondering if for my extra battery is it worth upping the voltage and mAh, and more to the point, would that battery fit? Mainly because being on a fairly tight budget its more important to me to have reliability than super high performance.

no that battery wont fit into the standard stock of the CM16. you need a cranestock battery
