It's an old post but the fundamentals still stand up today. Three things to consider nowadays is getting a brushless motor, I recommend a Warhead Black, that will pull damn near anything while having good speed, a maple leaf MR rubber that will mimic the hop rubber mod, and radiusing the gearbox to reduce stress on the front end when going to higher powered springs.
