Evening all,

in the process of tapping my hpa tank and im not sure on how i can line my tap up, im using a 90 degree elbow fitting but i need it facing a specific direction but i asume it'll depend on how deep the thread is?

i cant think of a way of connecting this and having it a certain way is there a trick or fitting of some sort?

thanks

Are you using an NPT tap? if so just use PTFE tape as the thread will be tapered. If using a straight thread then you could use washers with an o-ring under the bottom one

yes im using 1/8th npt. so just stick 1 layer of ptfe tap around the tap before tapping it and turn it as many times a possible before getting to the end of the thread then position it?

put as many layers as you require to have it point the correct way when you screw in the elbow fitting.

They're a 90o elbow and they swivel, heh. They have a 1/8 NPT on one end and a 6mm push fitting on the other. I know Reaper Airsoft Customs sourced some for me when I needed them, but you might be able to find them elsewhere.

What are you tapping though? I assume you're not trying to drill a hole into the side of your HPA tank as your OP says? If this is for your pistol then don't use a tap 1/8 NPT tap - just use some CQB Russian style taps as they're removable.

If you indeed meant that you were using the CQB Russian type ones in the first place, then all you need to do is

  • Make sure the magazine is void of all gas
  • Remove the fill valve with a valve key or small flathead screwdriver
  • Put a small amount of pneumatic sealant or PTFE tape around your CQB Russian tap
  • Screw the tap into place, taking care not to over-torque or cross-thread it
If you feel too much resistance then stop and ensure that you have the correct tap for Marui magazines.

ive currently tapped the back of thr gas tank on my tokyo marui ksg. im looking at putting a 90 degree bend on the tank so i can run it along the rubber back of the stock and thus being able to use my stock still

Alright, I see.

In that case, you can just buy a static elbow - look for a male to male 1/8 NPT elbow and then just screw it into place. Make sure the threads are squeaky clean and I'd use a pneumatic thread sealant over PTFE as you'll likely need to under-torque it slightly to get it to line up, so having that sealant to swell up and ensure it's a positive seal is a plus.

You can then use a female 1/8 NPT to male quick disconnect and use it to join to your line directly, or look for a female 1/8 NPT to 6mm push fitting (or 4mm if a 6mm won't fit). I'd look for a compression 4mm or 6mm fitting though as they're more durable. You could cut out the middle man by finding a male 1/8 NPT elbow to 6mm push fitting, but I couldn't say where you'd find that other than Reaper Airsoft Customs managed to get me some even when I was out of ideas.

As refresh rate isn't much of an issue in your shotgun, I'd look for a thicker walled 6mm or 4mm than usual (I know Mancraft sells a fairly thick-walled 4mm if you can get the specs. from their site) - again for longevity. Even 4mm will have a plenty big enough bore size to get that air flowing into your expansion chamber/gas reservoir between shots.

Then on the end of that 4mm or 6mm line you need another push fitting (again, compression fitting would be better) to a male QD for your HPA line.

Edit

Also, you want this sub-forum in the future :) http://www.airsoft-forums.co.uk/index.php/forum/132-high-pressure-air/

jesus that seems confusing! and i was going to but didnt seem like an active sub form and this could be answered by many people and was hoping for a good result.

need to decode what youve just wrote and ill work with it ahaa

thanks

not sure on what these are ot how these work. let alone getting one in the uk
A swivel elbow is an air line fitting which is free to rotate all the way around whilst still maintaining a solid air line.

You can get them in straight studs, elbows, t-pieces, f-pieces and 4-way joiners.

I do alot of them in my line of work (replacement truck & articulated trailer parts).

The one you'll want will be alot smaller than I normally supply though.

You could try a company called MF Hydraulics, we sometimes get the smaller air fittings from them when we are stuck. If you've got the specs of what you need (thread size, pipe diameter etc) they can help

Might be easier to ask an airsoft retailer specialising in HPA, however. Though I bet MF would be cheaper.

I will ask Reaper Airsoft Customs what one they bought and see if I can get you a part/model number.

right so ive tapped the tank. ptfe,d and locktited it up in the right position. ive brought a tank now just need to find a decent reg but i only have like £60 ish to spend. im guessing i cant afford one atm?

Mancraft reg is cheap enough. Low refresh rate but you don't need anything fast so that's worth a go. Still waiting to hear back from Reaper Airsoft Customs by the way.

cheers pal ill look into it and ive junped feet first in and attched a 90 degree elbow and filed away some of the tank to give some room!

Yeh, but now you need the QD or push fitting, the line routing etc.

How are you doing that? :)
