I'm 20 and you need a black box in unless you wanna spend around 4k on insurance to not have a black box.

I'm not sure why your insurance is so high, mine was 1100 in a 1.6 307 when I started driving.

My brother had to fork nearly 3000 euro for a 1.4 1st Gen Clio when he was 19 and started driving. Insurance seems to have evened out on the male side recently but still pretty expensive here in Ireland. I'm starting to consider a motorbike for travel to college in dublin,I'd bankrupt myself within a few months car wise.

Messing around with adding named drivers and changing the excess seems to have the most effect. Fortunately my current excess isn't too high as some penis drove into me and claims it's my fault.

When I first started driving, 2 years ago, I was 18. First car is a 1.8 Mondeo, insurance was £2300 for first year, but having a black box knocked it down to £1360, second year it was £680, and not sure on third year yet, but places without a black box are giving me quotes around the £400 mark.

Tips for lowering insurance costs: say you park your car on the street at your address rather than driveway or garage - you're more likely to crash and make a claim that way. Add a couple of experienced drivers as named drivers to the policy, they lower the cost by a lot.

I drive a 1991 MX5, no Black box for £1050 It was 0NCB and 20 year old last year for £1300 (mods declared)

Look around and if needs be, call up Direct line and others. Me and most of my friends are with Admiral as they repeatedly come out with sensible quotes.

Parent's are replacing their car, so i'm getting a 2001 51 reg Honda Accord S 1.8i VTEC for free :3 only got 75k on the clock, full set of brand new tires including the spare, insurance... im 24 in under 2 weeks, still over a grand >.<

My 307 was a piece of crap lol. It felt like it was going to stall in both 1st and 2nd below 10mph. Also had an inherent problem with the ABS that I had to get fixed, despite peugeot "fixing" it for the previous owner. tbh I think I'll always go for Japanese cars now.

TacMaster - I can fit in the Morris Mini's more easily than a lot of modern cars, and I'm 7'3" Took a few quotes on 1.2L vauxhall corsa's a few weeks back, and they are no way in hell cheaper to insure. 1.7k a year minimum. That accord I mentioned previously, just got a quote for 800 with a black box.

Unless it's change those black boxes can also increase your insurance if they deem you to be driving dangerously. When I was looking into it 5 or so years ago they would flag going round a roundabout as cornering at excessive speed.

They are very lenient now. Trust me the black boxes only really show anything if you drive like a tosser.
