Does it take AEG hop rubbers, or do you still have the stock hop/barrel? If AEG, then MadBull are good, otherwise I can only go on recommendations, as previously suggested, Laylax/Nineball and PDI are regarded as pretty good.
Hard type rubber are made of much harder rubber(Obviously) Provide more durability for high FPS guns and lifting heavy BBs. Soft types like the stock VSR one don't last long at high FPS while lifting heavy BBs.
I don't think it can take AEG barrels, Liam. Certainly not with AEG buckings. I could probably get an AEG barrel in there with a VSR rubber on it, but otherwise it's not happening.
I need to get a better barrel actually. I'll look into Nineball and PDI, anyone know of any UK stockists?
Oh, paying attention is clearly not a strong attribute of mine.
If you buy an upgraded hop unit, it will allow it to take AEG barrels/buckings.
About hard/soft, I'd suggest a decent quality soft rubber over any hard rubber. Soft will offer more consistency shot to shot and offer a better air seal, which is what you need in a sniper. I have a MadBull soft rubber in my L96, shooting 500 FPS, had been in there for ages. Changed because I got an R-Hop, not because it wore...
As for a barrel, I'd recommend a PDI one. I have a PDI one in mine, and after comparing it with a stock M16 barrel and MadBull M16 barrel, it is much, much better. I have the 6.05mm inner diameter one, which isn't much tighter than stock, but gave me much better accuracy and range compared to the MadBull 6.03mm of the same length.
I'll admit I'm not versed in Hard/soft rubbers as In Ireland all guns fire under 1 Joule,I'm simply assuming this based on common sense for reliability. High FPS builds are not my strong point, all the VSRs I've helped build or build I jammed stock TM hops into them.
Otherwise you're right to say PDi make the best barrels, followed by Laylax.
As much as I'd like to just use AEG hop units, barrels and rubbers, there aren't any aftermarket hop units for this rifle yet. Word has it PDI are working on a whole line of upgrade parts, but it might be anything up to 2 years before we start seeing them.
I'll look at a PDI barrel, definitely. I was going to get a 6.01mm a bit back, it was £130 on F-S, but they were out of stock. Probably a good job for my wallet.
...start working on the R-Hop a bit more, which patches do you have Liam? Got a link? The ones I tried were nothing close to the right size and I don't have the tools required to better fit them easily at my disposal. So if you have a relatively hassle free installation, then the patches you had must be of better design.
I was actually wondering if it'd be possible to make them out of something, maybe just by cutting up a hard AEG hop rubber or something. What do you reckon?
