    Yes, the screw will go into a spring guide which can be removed through the back of the gearbox.

    If you can saw the screw, do so. If you can then either get a set of mole grips on it or cut a slot in the top of it, try unscrewing it. Otherwise, open the gearbox and change the spring guide.
