I do agree with changes such as rounding the point from general use kitchen knives.
A point is needed on a paring knife, which is a small knife.
“Years ago” people were getting hurt with knives
They were carried for a variety of reasons, many of which no longer apply
I carry knives, but 99% of the time not on my person and I don’t carry stabby ones
People also regularly carried swords
The U.K. never had a shooting problem or gun crime problem.
And we still don’t so our laws have changed nothing.
Ok so tell me why this mayhem in the USA is happen, by whom and where?
the majority of gun deaths in the US are suicide.
The majority of crime in the US comes from 5 major cities.
All have strict laws.
The US has the worst gang problem out of all first world countries.
Again why is the debates on this subject not really in your favour?
Do you actually watch them or just want to stay in this bubble?

No they haven’t been a problem for thousands of years, a minority always have misused them.
Why are we seen them used more now than ever with more laws than ever?

What will changing them do?
What are you beating they will use another knife or just sharpening them to a point?
They make knives in prisons from scraps.
Why should everyone be treated like they are a treat?
If you want that go for it, leave others to themselves.
And years ago it was an even tiny minority than now.
Now a days you can’t fight them back and they know it.
When you are an equal or greater threat it seems to bring about peace.
And all knives can be stabby.
See you are assuming this about your ones, what the same style as yours gets misused?

Well if being in a nanny state works I’ve yet to see it.
As I said why don’t you watch debates on this.
Plenty of them on YouTube with political commentators and such.
US ones are the best.
All you need to do is look at the stats, our laws have changed no crime rates, no murders rates, no violence rates nothing.
It’s just made it easier for the bad guys.

So how is what I said based on false assumptions?
I could say the same about all your statements.
But I would rather take them on.
I normally use Government stats, by now there is so much unreported, and recorded. Rune we aren’t getting the best data anymore.
As Ive said why don’t you look at debates in this were they break it down with facts, stats and logic?
You don’t want to because you side doesn’t preform well in these debates.

Decades ago, I knew someone who stabbed a man to death with a kitchen knife. Despite his lifestyle choices, up to that point he was not a criminal; after that point he was one. Given the circumstances, which I am not going into, I felt, and still feel, that attacking the man was appropriate; stabbing him with a kitchen knife was not.
The point of that is that it isn't just about people who are already criminals breaking the law; non-criminals do so too. To try to loop back to crossbows, sometimes people snap or react to a situation; to a reasonable extent, removing access to lethal weapons, particularly ranged ones, seems to be a sensible approach towards reducing the possibility of them killing or seriously injuring someone.

@Good day , & everyone else, play nice please, discussion is fine but not to the point of falling out over something we can't change, nor do we have much say in.
As my earlier posts hopefully indicated, im against a government that looks to take away our freedoms, but logically I don't see much need for a weapon, let's call it what it is, that's as powerful as a firearm at short to medium ranges, completely silent, & totally unregulated.

I know you can kill someone with anything, but they do seem especially lethal. Was watching a police thing (24h in Police Custody maybe?) recently where two men were killed in one incident with crossbows. The bolts had triangular tips and left wounds that made them bleed out in minutes.
I'll just use an axe to murder burglars.

You're right, I remember a decade or more ago when nationwide a&e medics were petitioning parliament to implement a ban on all knives with pointy ends, even kitchenware, but it was quickly thrown out after most people agreed that the types of people the law change was aimed at wouldn't give 2 fucks, they'd just grind a new point, or start making shivs.
True story, a plod mate of mine was tsg at the time, Croydon had implemented a "no face covering" order to try to crack down on the gang problem, anyone seen flouting it was subject to a stop & search, one lad when searched was found to be carrying a ball of wool & two large knitting needles, which he claimed had been recommended to him as a way to relax when stressed, probably by his probation officer or counsellor.
My mate says "that's nice, show us how you knit then" ?
Needless to say when he failed to knit one, pearl one, he was swiftly nicked for carrying an offensive weapon
But it just goes to show what some scrotes will try to get away with.

While I do see the appeal of less restrictions on owning crossbows, blades and guns, unfortunately I've met too many idiots I wouldn't trust with a super soaker let alone something which can easily kill.
As for self defence if people were allowed to carry a weapon which of these scenarios is more likely?
A: a criminal decides to go straight or
B: they also up the ante by carrying something even more dangerous

You can do an astonishing amount of damage to someone using a biro as a weapon.
As you said, people will find a way to make anything into a weapon. Prisoners have been shanking each other to death with sharpened toothbrushes for decades.
